Toothpaste tanks. Slipper birds. Flowers made from bras. Welcome to the world of Chinese retail, where in-store displays can get wonderfully creative.

In the West, there have been a number of impressive soda can displays—and China has seen those, too. But it's also seen suits of armor made from pots and pans as well as mats and rugs.

Not every hypermarket or grocery store does this kind of displays, but the ones that do are certainly delightful.

Isn't that flower bra technically a bra flower?

Pure Awesomeness!

I think you meant to say "A bra flower".

Dang! American department stores need to step it up! The best I've seen locally is a tank made from beer cases. I like the towel and slipper art the best, and the bra flower is pretty neat.

That slipper bird is terrifying.
...and what's up with all the tanks? Is this some type of Communist Party propaganda?

Every year on my girlfriends birthday her family and friends cover her in toilet paper and make a dress out of it for her to wear.
Not really sure why, just a tradition they've done for years on her birthday.
Reminded me of the last picture.

Man I love living in China! Its funny after living here for a little less then a month I realize that there are just so many people here that they have tons of free time to make pieces of art with just about anything! My favorite is the snail one :-)

What did I just see?!?!?

Migaru90UBrian Ashcraft
Doesn't this mean that there are less sell-able products? Or are customers allowed to just take what they need off the display?

BobsplosionUBrian Ashcraft
I feel like the tissue dress is going to be very inconvenient on a rainy day.

Aw.

哇。

The heart eels and kero bras are cute. Towel snails are nice too. I wish markets down here let employees get creative like this. It seems like in America we're more concerned with cohesive corporate identities and this type of mish mash at any give store under the same company wouldn't fly.

There are people whose sole job is to make sure that their products are displayed properly (in the states at least). So not only are these creative displays discouraged, but they can have monetary consequences... Yay for stifling creative ideas!

Eels are delicious. I've never seen heart arrangements made out of them though.
